I have always been one to get things done. I’ve relied on my own strength to push through the hardships of life’s challenges full force. It’s not that I willingly left God out of the equation. Of course He was always there in the background… but I hadn’t leaned on Him like I should have.
With my recent diagnosis of a rare type of cancer called multiple myeloma, things started spinning out of control.
I quickly realized that I needed to trust God in a way I never had before- and also to trust in others who were His hands and feet.
It was (and continues to be) HARD!
As we navigated our way through moving back to the states in a whopping three days, a 5 1/2 month hospital stay, chemotherapy and finally coming home, I felt overwhelmed and afraid.
I prayed for my husband who suddenly was bearing the burden of cooking cleaning and caring for me full time, as well as working a full time job.
As we continue to navigate through this new path, I am learning to let go of my fear and anxiety trusting that God would meet our physical, emotional and spiritual needs.
And He has.
Through everything, I am learning that the benefits of trusting God in difficult times are immense. Trusting Him brings peace to my hearts and mind, even when circumstances seem impossible.

Trust is defined as having reliance on the character, ability, strength, or truth of someone or something and to have dependence on something future or contingent : HOPE
Proverbs 3:5 urges us to:
Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.

The word trust in the Hebrew is בָּטַח (ba.tach), meaning to, trust in, to have confidence, be confident in, to be bold, to be secure, to make secure, to feel safe, be careless.
That Hebrew definition is A LOT to unpack, isn’t it Sweet Sis?
Instead of using the word “trust” in the Lord in the Scripture, let’s replace that word with the other words we’ve found in the Hebrew:
Be confident in the Lord.
Have confidence in the Lord.
Be bold in the Lord.
Be secure in the Lord.
Be safe in the Lord.
Be careless in the Lord.
Wow! Are any of those speaking to you? Is God calling you to be secure in Him? Do you want to be safe in Him? What about your cares that weigh you down? God wants you to trust in Him and be care free.
All of these beautiful promises are His as children of God.
Faith and trust are two of the fundamental elements of knowing God as we grow in our faith. Trusting in God means we are continually relying on His character, His promises, and His faithfulness.
How can we trust God with our fears and faults? We can trust God because He has proven himself to be an all knowing and all powerful God. If we have trusted Him in the past and up to this point, we can rest in the fact that He will continue with us.
He sees things from above- from a heavenly standpoint.. We see things from below.
His ways are higher than ours.
I’m reminded where Paul said,
For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known.

- It acknowledges God’s sovereignty: You know, throughout history, God has shown His people time and time again that He can be trusted. He’s never failed to keep His promises and has always been there for us. Putting our faith in God means putting our trust in His unchanging character and nature.
- It brings peace: Trusting in God unlocks a profound and inexplicable sense of calm that surpasses all understanding. It’s not just a belief, it’s an unshakable conviction rooted in the divine truths of scripture.
- It strengthens our faith: As our faith grows, so too does our intimacy with our Maker, as we bear witness to His unwavering faithfulness through the fulfillment of His promises.
- It provides direction: Trusting in Him engenders a reliance on His wisdom and direction, shielding us from the snares of our own fallible perspectives or the opinions of others.

God is trustworthy: Life has its ups and downs and people will show their true colors and turn their backs on us. If there is one true constant in our life, it is God. He has always been there for us, even when everyone else has let us down, friends and family alike. Putting our faith in God means trusting in His steadfastness and knowing that He will never abandon us.

Joseph was sold into slavery by his own brothers, accused by Pharaoh’s wife of attempted rape was imprisoned in Egypt as a result.
Despite facing all of the above challenges, and more, Joseph remained faithful to God and trusted in His guidance and strength. In the end, God used Joseph’s faithfulness to save his family from famine. Pretty amazing, right?

If you want to develop a heart full of gratitude and thanksgiving, I dare you to thank God for the blessings you already have. Write down everything from the smallest blessings like a pen and paper to jot your thought down to a roof over your head that God has supplied. One notable example of gratitude is found in the book of Philippians, where the Apostle Paul writes about his own experience of gratitude in difficult circumstances. Paul was put in prison as a result of his preaching the gospel and he was able to thank God in the process. hile in prison, he used the time to write many of the epistles to Timothy. Even in his darkest moments, he still had the church of God in his heart and mind.

In what has now become one of the most well-loved Psalms of all time, David compares God’s care and guidance to things he saw in everyday life. David’s unwavering faith allowed his relationship with God to flourish, as he wholeheartedly pursued God.
