Choosing/Buying the Right Prayer Bible for Your Needs

When selecting or buying a prayer Bible, it’s important to choose one that fits your unique needs and preferences. Here are some key factors to consider:

Size and Format: Do you prefer a compact, portable Bible that you can easily carry with you, or would you like a larger, more substantial journal with space to write in? Consider how you plan to use your prayer Bible and what size will work best for your lifestyle.

Personally, I like a smaller Bible where your pages fill up quickly instead of using a larger size Bible where prayers are sparse on the page.

Look at the Bibles you already own. Perhaps you could make an existing Bible your prayer Bible.

Binding and Paper Quality: If you plan on writing on your Bible pages, look for a Bible with a durable, high-quality binding that will withstand regular use. The paper should be thick enough to prevent bleed-through when you’re writing. If you have a Bible with thinner pages, that’s resolvable. I use decorative post it’s (sticky notes) which solves the issues of ghosting from pens.

Margins: Some prayer Bibles offer special features like margins with lined pages or blank pages for notes. You could also write directly on the pages of the margins.

Blank margins are not necessary, because any Bible can be used for a prayer Bible. Just post your prayers in your Bible with post it notes or paper and washi.

Added paper squares– In my prayer Bible, I use sticky notes and grid paper in the margins for journaling. I don’t use blank white paper or dot grid since my writing tens to be very uneven.

How to Make a Prayer Bible-Step by Step

Making a prayer Bible is super easy, but in case you need a bit of help, here’s how I made my own prayer Bible:

1. Purchase or use an existing Bible
2. Establish a Routine: Decide on a consistent time each day to devote to your prayer Bible. Make this a sacred, unhurried appointment with the Lord.
3. Begin with Prayer: Start each session by asking God to open your heart and guide your time in His Word and in prayer.
4. Read and Reflect: Slowly read through your chosen Scripture passage, underlining or highlighting verses that particularly resonate. Meditate on how these words can be used as a prayer.
5. Record Your Prayers: In the margins or on blank pages, write out your personal prayers based on the verses you’ve read. Pour out your heart, using the Scripture as the foundation. Be as creative as you desire!
6. Note Answers: As God answers your prayers, make special marks or notations (like stars, hearts, or colored pens) to track His faithfulness over time.

Simple Steps to Create Scripture-Based Prayers in Your Prayer Bible

Begin with Prayer– Open your heart to the Lord, asking Him to guide your reading and prayer time.

Read Your Bible– Take time to read your Bible slowly and thoughtfully.

Transform Scripture into Prayer– Look at your Scripture carefuly and read it slowly. Write the verse on a piece of paper. What stands out to you and why? How can I connect the verse’s truth to my current situation? How can you turn this Scripture into a prayer?

Shape your personal prayer- Use the Scripture’s words to shape your personal prayer. I like to write my prayer on paper first before transcribing it in my Bible.

Date Your Prayer- Write the date beside these special verses • Add personal symbols or notes that are meaningful to you

• Create Sacred Space– Designate a quiet, peaceful spot for your prayer time.

Additional Ways to Record God’s Faithful Answers to Prayer

Add the cherry on top of your journaling by notating your prayers that God has answered.

1. Use Special Symbols • Draw a small cross (✝) for answered prayers, a heart (♥) or a star (⭐) for unanswered prayers
2. Color Coding • Circle answered prayers in green • Highlight the verses you are using as a springboard to pray.
3. Dating System • Use a datestamp to record the date you originally prayed.
4. Response Notes • Write “Answered” with the date or shorten it to A in a bright and brilliant color. Add a brief note about how God answered • Include Scripture that confirmed the answer.

Documenting God’s faithfulness in answering prayer helps build our trust in Him and encourages us during waiting seasons. Every answer is a precious testament to His love and care for you.
