Red White and Blue Rice Krispie Treats

The foundation of a stellar rice krispie treat is quality ingredients and these red, white blue rice krispie treats are no exception.

Patriotic Rice Krispy Treats- Tips and Tricks

Here’s a list of trusted tips and tricks that I’ve used over the years when making my Rice Krispy Treats

  1. Spray your pan with non stick spray or line with parchment paper for easy clean up
  2. Use fresh ingredients
  3. Use low heat when melting your butter/marshmallows and stir constantly to prevent burning.
  4. Coat your hands with non stick spray or use plastic wrap to press down marshmallow mixture into pan.
  5. Don’t smash the Rice Krispies too much in the pan.  Press them down firmly but don’t squash the Rice Krispies.
  6. Cut out your stars with the star cookie cutter while the marshmallow mixture is still warm.  If making bars, use a buttered knife
  7. Don’t skimp on adding marshmallows.  Extra is better.
  8. Use different shapes and sprinkles to customize your Patriotic Rice Krispy Treats for other holidays! Try pink hearts for Valentines day and green and red for Christmas.
  9. Store rice krispie treats in an airtight container or bag.
  10. If you need to make your rice krispie treats in advance, they can be frozen. Make sure they are sealed tightly so as to not absorb any odors.
  11. For fun variety and different flavors, try different flavors of Rice Krispie cereal such as chocolate or strawberry.

These red, white, blue rice krispy treats are perfect for your summer celebration!

The Best 4th of July Rice Krispie Treats

  • 6 cups crispy rice cereal (pictured with cocoa crispy rice cereal)
  • (10 ounce) miniature marshmallows
  • 3 tablespoons butter
  • Blue candy wafer melts
  • Red candy wafer melts
  • Red, White and Blue Patriotic sprinkles
  • Star cookie cutter
  • Waxed paper
  • Non stick spray
  • Lollipop sticks

1. Line 13 x 9 baking sheet with wax paper and/or a spritz of non-stick cooking spray.

2. Melt butter over low heat. Add the marshmallows and melt, stirring constantly. Remove the saucepan from heat.

3. Fold in the cereal until it is completely coated in the marshmallow.

4. Using a buttered spatula or greased wax paper evenly press mixture into baking sheet.

5. When warm, use cookie cutter to cut the treats into star shapes. If the treats are loose, press additional krispy mixture into the cookie cutter before releasing the shape onto waxed paper. Reshape the remaining cereal in your baking pan until all is used.

6. Place candy melts in a microwave safe bowl. Melt on high heat, stirring every 30 seconds until completely melted. Do not overheat. If the candy is too thick, add vegetable shortening or coconut oil in 1 teaspoon increments, up to 1 tablespoon, and stir well. Do not add water.

7. Transfer melted candy to a piping bag or freezer bag with the corner snipped.

8. Drizzle melted candy over treats. Immediately add sprinkles.

9. Allow to dry completely before packaging or storing.
