Easy Mini Collage Ideas for Bible Journaling

Today’s project will give you plenty of mini collage ideas for journaling to quickly and creatively document your faith with items you most likely already have on hand.  And using up your scraps that you already own… now that’s a win… because let’s face it, who needs to go out and buy more stuff?

What a sight it would have been if you could have seen and heard me squeal in delight as I assembly lined a stack of these in my craft room a few weeks ago.

I’m super excited over these micro journaling Scrapbooking collages and when I started putting them together a few weeks ago AI was over the moon!

Are you ready to try a new technique in combining your creativity and faith?

Over the past few years I’ve come across many journalers who don’t want to cover the words in their Bible and prefer to do bible journaling in the margins.  Understandably so.  Today’s technique of making paper mini collages is absolutely perfect for those who just want to add to their Bible and not to cover the Word of God.

Choose What You are Journaling in your Bible.

What Scripture has God been speaking to you lately?

  • What issue has God been dealing with you in your walk with Him?
  • How can you praise Him in your journaling?
  • What prayers has He answered?
  • How can you give Him praise?

These are the things you can journal about! You can make your own word snippets for your journaling. Be as short and concise as possible.

Putting together your mini collages

I like to pre cut an assortment of papers in rectangles, squares and use a punch for circles and other shapes if I have a punch on hand nearby.  There are NO wrong shapes and if your shape is bent or messed up on one side, don’t discard it.  We will be layering and adding so those imperfections can be hidden by other pieces.  I also love to use torn pieces of paper from an old yellow book that I keep on hand for the purpose of journaling.

Take three elements (two or three pieces of paper, a die cut and a word sentiment) and arrange your mini collage in a pleasing fashion.  Experiment with overlapping and longer composition- there are NO wrong ideas here-  it’s all about what you love.

Glue and/or tape your collages together to fasten them together.

Adding Texture to your Mini Journaling Collages

You can see by the examples in this blog post that I ran some of my elements through my sewing machine to add a bit of texture and visual interest.  You can do this before you assemble your mini collage or after.  Your choice!  If you do it after, just make sure to allow the glue to dry thoroughly.   I love to use doilies in my journalings for enhanced texture. I don’t cut the doilies off with  scissors but I tear off the doilies carefully to have a distressed edge that looks a bit shabby chic.

Add your word sentiment or hand letter a phrase or word that corresponds to the bible verse that you are journaling about.

Fasten your mini journaling collage to your accompanying scripture in your bible with your decorative paper clip!
