 Do You Want Great Images?

Is there something lacking in your blog photography?  Do you want to take your own custom images and not rely upon stock image sites? Today, I am not only going to tell you why a DSLR is the best camera for bloggers, but I’m going to SHOW you. Showing is better than telling, don’t you think? My partiality is evident friends… I love my DSLR with it’s amazing capabilities.  The Ipad images are at left and the DSLR are at right.

A Side by Side Comparison of a Smart Phone and DSLR Images

Each image is straight out of camera besides cropping,so they are as close to identical as possible. I also added a foreground to the last image due to the difference in focal length. Each image was shot within seconds of each other.    I’ve chosen to use the cheapest lens in my arsenal, which is my 50mm 1.8 that cost about 100 dollars at the time of purchased.  The 50mm 1.8 prime lens provides nice sharp images and is a wonderful first lens for your DSLR.

What does a DSLR offer you that your smart phone/Iphone can’t?

Let’s delve in with 3 compelling reasons-including examples!

Isolation of Subject

The image at left (taken with my Ipad) shows the entire image in focus and is lacking the isolation of the subject.  Because it’s competing with the background, the subject is lost.

Light

This is a big deal.  A very big deal.  I took these images with only seconds between each shot. Hard to believe, isn’t it?  Amazing!  Portable cameras can’t capture light like a DSLR with a prime lens can.  Look at the beautiful glow of the light in the image.  No matter what app you use to better the image at left,  it will never compare to the one on the right.  Never.

Depth of Field

What is depth of field?  It’s creamy and it’s luscious.  That wonderful background that melts away and allows the main subject to pop is the depth of field.  You can add blur to an image with an app, but in my opinion, it looks cheap. It also never looks as glorious as when it’s done in camera.  The background (my new dishes that are sitting on the counter) are an eyesore in the image at left.  The background is unattractive, hard and unforgiving.  The image at right makes the subject the star of the image… just like it should be.

Isn’t it amazing that the subjects on these images is the very same?
