The Best Pans to Use for Shrimp Fried Rice

Shrimp Fried Rice

One of the secrets of achieving the perfect shrimp-fried rice is using the right pan. Some are often confused with the different terms of pans used when describing the frying process. In most cooking instructions, the frying pan is often called a skillet and sauté pan.

In cooking shrimp fried rice or any kind of fried rice, it is always best to use a nonstick frying pan.

This can either be aluminum, ceramic, or cast iron. You can use any type of nonstick frying pan, but I do recommend ceramic skillets. They are easy to clean and alter the flavor of your ingredients.

The Best Oils to Use for making Fried Rice

The oil that you will be using is very important to consider when making fried rice. It also makes the whole process easier to avoid the rice from sticking on the pan. Some oil has low smoke points, which is not good for your fried rice since making fried rice requires high heat. Below is the list of oils you can use to level up your fried rice. If you’re also looking for a healthier alternative, these options are perfect for you!

What kind of rice is best to use for Easy Shrimp Fried Rice

While fried rice is probably the most well-known Chinese dish, it is surprising how many people are unaware of the fact that there are different types of rice that can be used for making fried rice. In fact, different types of rice can highly affect the taste of fried rice. When choosing, it is important to keep in mind that you should look for medium-grain rice.

A perfect example of this is Jasmine Rice. My family has been loyal to using Jasmine rice. When cooked, it gives very smooth and fluffy grains. Unlike sushi rice, they are not that sticky, making it so much easier to work with when frying.

It makes the texture of your fried rice so much better, and we all know that texture is a great element of this dish.

Fried Rice with Shrimp

Should I use leftover rice or freshly cooked rice?

This is a great question that I often hear from a lot of my peers. You can certainly use leftover rice for a fried rice recipe. In fact, a lot of Chinese restaurants will use leftover rice for fried rice since cooking it again will put another layer of moisture to the rice. The only thing you have to watch out for is the rice getting too dry. Though we want starchy and firm rice, we also want to avoid our rice being inedible.

Other than the common ingredients such as oil, onion, vegetables, shrimp, etc., anyone can add anything to their Shrimp Fried Rice. There are no hard rules when it comes to this recipe. If you want to add a little bit of taste by adding different ingredients, feel free to experiment.

Tips on Making Fried Rice with Shrimp

I love how this recipe is not really authentically from a specific country, but rather a bit of a fusion. I’ve eaten authentic fried rice Korean style, Filipino style, and my American style. To achieve that perfect taste, it is good to fry your rice for at least 5-7 minutes to make sure you have broken up all the clumps of rice. Before serving it, it is also a secret tip to allow is the air to circulate around the pan first so it can settle its flavors.

Which is the best Soy Sauce for Fried Rice?

You can’t have a plate of fried rice without that delicious splash of soy sauce. It’s one of the most popular Chinese takeout dishes and the condiment that goes with it. But what is the best soy sauce for Fried Rice? It is Light Soy Sauce!

Unlike the other kinds of soy sauce which are used to thicken the texture, this is best used to add more flavor to your fried rice. There is different light soy sauce variants in the market. My other favorite is Korean soy sauce which has amazing flavor. If you like a stronger soy sauce I would recommend the very famous Kikkoman soy sauce.

If you have wheat intolerance, you can use Coconut Aminos which taste amazing.
