If you’ve been around Creative Christians, you’ve probably seen Scripture Writing online where ladies will write out the scriptures in colorful notebooks planners or on lined paper. I’ve introduced daily scripture writing into my devotional time each morning with so many great benefits.
Today I want to tell you all about a wonderful practice called Scripture writing that sometimes is called bible writing.
What is a Scripture Writing?
Simply put, Scripture writing is taking scripture verses from the bible and writing them down in a journal or notebook. Some write books of the Bible, some write specific chapters while others write on a theme with curated verses that support those verses.

What is the Purpose of a Scripture Writing Plan
The purpose of a Bible writing plan is to help you grow in God!
Colossians 3:16 says “Let the word of God dwell in you richly in all wisdom.”
What does the word dwell mean in the Greek?
Dwell (ἐνοικέω enoikeō) in the Greek means to dwell, live and influence for the good.
What does the word richly mean in the Greek?
Richly (πλουσίως plousiōs) means copiously, abundantly and richly.
Isn’t it your heart’s desire to allow God’s word to dwell, live and influence your life for the good? Scripture writing helps God’s word dwell in your heart richly- copiously, abundantly and richly in all wisdom?
A Scripture writing plan can help that!
What are the Benefits of a Scripture Writing Plan?
As creatives, we learn and absorb things differently. Reading the word is how we feed our souls, but taking the time to let it soak into our heart will transform our lives. We can incorporate God’s word into our lives by methodically copying the scriptures, re-reading and keeping a journal to help us absorb the Word of God into our hearts.
There are numerous benefits to incorporating Scripture writing plan in your life.
- helps you focus on Scripture
- helps you memorize Scripture
- helps you understand scripture
- it’s not overwheling
- you can study the word in the small margins of your life since it doesn’t take much time
What does the Bible say about Writing Scripture?
The Bible doesn’t speak a command in telling us to write Scripture but we do see examples of writing Scripture in the word of God.
The Levites, one of the tribes of Israel, were responsible for writing out the scrolls of the Old Testament to be read in the temple. That’s literally Scripture writing!
How Do You Write Bible Verses?
The first thing you want to do when beginning to write Scriptures is to pray. Pray that God will illuminate your mind and open your heart to receive God’s word. Scripture that the eyes of your understanding me enlightened.
Ephesians 1:8 is the perfect Scripture to pray which reads as follows:
Ephesians 1:8 The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints,
Pray that God would open your eyes as you write Scripture so you can know the hope of God’s calling and the wonderful inheritance and riches that He has for you as a child and saint of God.

Ring Bound Journals
My favorite ring bound journals come from Dayspring and come in a variety of beautiful faith based covers as seen in the above picture. I would urge you to take a look because new ones are offered regularly. I love supporting a company that is faith based as opposed to a huge company like Amazon. If you don’t have time to wait for a delivery, any kind of journal will do.
One of my favorite features of ring bound journals and planners is the ease of turning pages.
Expired Planners
A few years ago I had purchased an expired planner because it was so colorful and cute. I knew I could find a way to use it, so it became my Scripture writing and praise journal.
It’s one of my favorites. I don’t have a link for this since I purchased it at a store here in Germany. Sorry!
Prayerful Planner for Scripture Writing
My all time favorite planner that I use for both journaling is the Prayerful Planner. I purchased the daily layout which allows me to do both journaling and Scripture writing in one day.
I love that the prayerful planner is Christian owned and I want to support Christian businesses as much as I possibly can.
Here’s one more example that you can see of my using my Prayerful planner as both a journal and a place to write Scripture.
Favorite Pens for Scripture Writing
My favorite writing utensils are Paper Mate Flair Pens and I have written an entire review on them that you can check out HERE. They are colorful and the perfect sized pen tip.
They definitely make my heart smile!
